Proposal Presentation
Mental illness is something that can affect the adolescent brain in developing. There are several different kinds of mental illness, and at first I didn't know exactly what to do so that is why I picked such a broad topic. This presentation was made to help the students know what brain health topic they would like to do. With the presentations the teachers organized the groups to have a groups with similar connecting topics. Throughout the project I focused on more of a specific topic which was bipolar disorder. The reason I picked this topic was because I didn't know much about this mental illness and I wanted to be more informed.

I used a couple sources to research my proposal presentation, one of them being the Adriana Galvan Laboratory official website. Dr. Galván being a UCLA professor does laboratory work surrounding brain imaging, task-based performance, physiological evaluations. This helped my research since I was focusing on mental illness and I found Dr. Galvans as a useful advocate for my topic because she also focuses on brain health. Another source I used for my proposal presentation was the NAMI organization this wasn’t a specific website like the previous source, this was a presentation given to the class about the purpose of NAMI. I found this a good source for me because part of the presentation was talking about the stigma around mental illness and NAMI advocates to reduce the stigma.
